Conducting a Science Fair Experiment in Middle School

Some middle school students get excited when it is time to do a science fair project. Others tremble in fear at the thought of the work and time it takes to do such an experiment. By the time a child reaches middle school, the subjects are more complex and involved than they were in elementary school. Here are some ideas and tips for middle school science projects that should help even the most uninterested student take notice.

The first step to doing a middle school science project is to pick a subject that interests the student. It is a lot easier to complete a project when it is fun and exciting. Many students may have a hobby and they don't even realize that there may be a method behind what they love. For instance, if your child is into working on jigsaw puzzles, explain to them that they can do a science project on "Brain Power." This relates to psychology, which is science of the mind or mental processes. The topic of psychology opens a world of ideas and presentations that a student can do a project on. They can pick the broad topic of psychology, or pinpoint their project to human behavior or how the brain functions.

The next step in working on a middle school science project involves research. The student must gather data and cite sources for their research. Great places to utilize for this task include using the Internet, encyclopedias, magazines, and specific books on their topic. Data is extremely important to a science project because it helps to prove or disprove a theory, and it helps people understand why things happen the way they do. A student must also be prepared to write a short report about their findings on their project.

Another reason that research is so important to a science project is that there is a good chance people are going to ask questions about the project. This part of a presentation can make some students freeze in their tracks, but it doesn't have to be that way. Thorough research and understanding of what you read will make this part of the project easier. A student should act relaxed and natural when they are discussing their projects with others, and being prepared ahead of time will help relieve any sense of anxiety.

Conducting an experiment is the best part of a middle school science project. This is where the student gets down and dirty, and conducts a physical action that backs up their data and report. It is important that the student have all of the necessary materials to do the experiment accurately. It is no fun to show off your hard work and not have your experiment work right. The student should also document each step of the experiment on paper in a way that someone else could read their notes and do the experiment the exact same way.

Finally, a student should present their experiment with an interesting and eye-catching display. It should attract onlookers to come and see what is going at your exhibit. Consider having handouts that people can take with them, present your display with colors and clipart, and, if possible, wear a uniform that helps portray what type of scientist would study the field based around your project. In other words, be creative.

As you can see, a middle school science project can be fun and rewarding. It takes effort. It takes time. But, the finished project is something that students can be proud of.

What Are The Right Foods For A Bearded Dragon?

Feeding Bearded Dragons

The type of food you feed your dragon can vary depending on its age. At the earlier stages of life a dragon will need more protein and fewer greens, but it is advisable to introduce greens as early as you can. If you shun these, your pet may not take to them later as it matures. Bearded Dragons are omnivorous - they eat bugs and vegetation.

Your dragon will feed only if both the food you give it and its body temperature are right and will not show any appetite if the conditions are wrong and even if it would show an appetite and feeds, it cannot digest the food if the temperature is wrong.

In good condition your bearded dragon should be a hearty eater and considering the importance of various conditions that influence its feeding and digestion, here is a short nutrition checklist:

- Pay attention to the health of insects you store for feeding your dragon.

- Wash greens / vegetables thoroughly.

- Adequate light and heat - both are vital for your bearded dragon's satisfactory food intake.

- Try and hand-feed insects to your dragon.

- Clear uneaten greens / vegetables from dragon's cage daily. Clean dish.

- Guard against vitamin A overdose.

- Gut-load insects before you feed them to your dragon.

- Choose younger prey because of its lower chitin content. - Supplement normal food with mineral (calcium) and vitamin additions.

- Make feeding age-appropriate.

- Chop greens and vegetables finely.

- Fasten suitable larger greens to a peg for your dragon to nibble.

- Match size of prey to size of your dragon's mouth. (Prey size half the width of the mouth)

- Offer water to your dragon through spraying, misting (greens and vegetables) and in dish.

Beside these, always remember to never-ever feed your dragon the items not recommended them (see the list in Find Out About Bearded Dragons).

The Truth About Life - The Consequences of the Very First Creation

If you are in hurry just know that at the very beginning of everything there was only One Thing called the FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE having the built-in power TO THINK or to IMAGINE Things into reality. The very first thought/image of this Unique Being there was, created a Limited Form. From that point this Being ceased to have its inside filled with just the same substance everywhere. Evolution began. What are the consequences of that single important action?

How new things manage to exist and continue the process of creation?

How did the very first Limited Form created manage to "live"?

Let us suppose the fundamental SUBSTANCE was self expansive as the cloud from the Big Bang, and was springing out from a central point and reaching out for a never reachable boundary, at the same speed, without encountering any obstacle, so not having any mean to change in any way. When the first Limited Form was created within that Substance, the existence of that new creation depended on the quality of its boundary to block or allow free SUBSTANCE circulation through it.

The Limited Form could continue to exist only if its boundary is strong enough to keep the internal substance from escaping totally and be free to expand again.

If free expansion of the SUBSTANCE is the natural enjoyable state of the Spirit (or FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE) then the small Spirit inside the Limited Form will lack that joy because of the boundary that does not allow it to escape and expand fully. At the same time, this turning around or back and forth of the internal Substance will create new reality inside. The new reality inside the Limited Form coupled with the intensity of exchanges between that Limited Form and the Rest of the Whole Reality will definitively shape the new life form and its capacity to maintain itself. To still exist, the Limited Form has to reinforce its boundary and at the same time the inner substance may be feeling frustrated because of the lack of freedom to move freely as before.

Does that remind you of something? Have you ever felt that way?

Total freedom is the end of personal existence.

We have the choice to accept our boundary and work with it, through it and for it or to shoot for total liberation and lose our very existence!

If no creation, from the First One, did not succeed in maintaining its own substance within its own boundary, there would be no successful creation and no evolution and we would not be here!

The success of the very first creation became a law in operation until now

What happened as the very first successful creation surely continued endlessly creating more and more things interacting with one another, competing, harmonizing, uniting, disintegrating, etc..

What is important is the introduction of a barrier or an obstacle on the path of free flowing fundamental substance. As long as there was no obstacle everything everywhere was the same. When the first obstacle appeared somewhere in the System things started changing there and elsewhere thereafter. That was the beginning of the EVOLUTION we still witness today and that is continuing for ever!

As time went by and creations accumulated, the memory of belonging to the same Whole Reality started to fade, especially in the physical world where forms are more evident than the subtle FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE hidden in everything. The lack to see that SUBSTANCE directly in us and around us creates more differences among us all elements in/on Earth. The nostalgia of the Original Freedom to expand became the ability to grow, to go beyond our limits, to chase joy endlessly.

What would be different if we knew that WE ARE AND DO HAVE THE POWER THAT WAS, THAT IS AND THAT WILL ALWAYS BE IN US AND AROUND US?

The ability to think or create mental images is the property of the FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE. So everything made of this SUBSTANCE is potentially capable of thinking and projecting thought forms but this capacity may be active or inactive, conscious or not, successful or not, according to the conditioning of each natural thing on Earth and elsewhere.

As someone said "whether you say you can or you can not, either way, you are right". What you truly believe about yourself, you capacities and your incapacities, your wants and your unwants, your success and your so called failures, is what you experience in your life. No one can change it but YOU, if you do not like it! You can not be saved by anyone, just by magic. You have to learn and apply by testing in order to define the new YOU more appropriately! When you do that you will be able to do things you thought impossible before and you will only owe it to your willingness to learn and to become a better creator. You have been creating all the way through, maybe by default, not consciously, but you have creating your own reality!!!

Creating things is the propriety of the FUNDAMENTAL SUBSTANCE we are all made of. We have the same creativity power available at the very beginning of our Universe. We do not have the choice to create or not create. We only have the choice of what to create if we give ourselves that choice. Otherwise we will be creating anything, anyway!

Man Builds Inventing Machine

John Koza has made a serious breakthrough when it comes to the computing power of today and our hopes for it in the future. Studying computers since his high school tutelage in the 1950s, Koza was a man who yearned to make advancements in the world around him. As a clear example of his ingenuity, he was unable to afford a computer while in high school, since the mainframes of the time took up entire rooms and cost far more than the modern day computer. To that end, John assembled bits and pieces from the gadgets around him, and with parts from old pinball machines and jukeboxes, he found himself with a computer that could accurately compute what day of the week a certain date would fall on.

John's latest invention far surpasses his date-decoding computer of the fifties. Utilizing 1,000 networked computers operating in tandem, his new device uses genetic programming to solve problems. Essentially, what the machine does is follow Darwin's laws of survival of the fittest - it compiles code, tests it against other code, and thereby determines the most accurate usage of code. And the machine wasn't built with one purpose in mind; instead, it utilizes it's thinking' process to solve complex engineering problems of manufacturing and production of whatever you can think of. And it does it arguably more efficiently than a human. The machine is well within operating conditions, as Koza has already made an engineering breakthrough with it. Most recently, the machine has come up with a type of lens system that can be used in telescopes and binoculars that offers a better field of vision than any type of lens created before then, and it does not infringe on any patent. To perform this feat, the program generated 75,000 random types of lenses. From there, it mated' the designs, taking the features that were helpful in one and placing them with features that were necessary in another. From there, generation after generation is created until every part of the design specifications is met. For the lens, the machine processed 295 generations before reaching a final solution. The machine has been proved useful in other inventions, as well. This heralds a scientific breakthrough in which computers may soon be doing much of our thinking for us. The machine has already received the first patent given to a non-human entity, and the sky is the limit.
